Throughout March and April 2018, Positive East worked in collaboration with HIV Voices to run a series of creative workshops for people living with HIV. The sessions were facilitated by Bakita Kasadha an HIV activist, trainer and past writer for HIV Voices. The aim of the project was to creatively empower people living with HIV to tell their own stories on their own terms.
To mark the end of the project HIV Voices hosted a celebration event at Positive East, where a handful of existing HIV Voices pieces were presented alongside an exploration of the workshop process and a showcase of some new work that emerged from the workshops.
Audience members were given a unique opportunity to journey around the building of Positive East and witness new writing inspired by ‘talking progress’ - the overall theme of the workshops series. The writing touched on the diverse experiences of what it means to live with HIV today, and how we conceptualise our futures.
